Our Process for Teachers

Below we have outlined in detail the process involve when working with us. We've tried to make it as clear and simple as possible. Truly, you'll be surprised how accessible it is to access remote teaching opportunities.

The best part: This is all at absolutely no cost to you. Yep, totally free!

1. Get in Touch

At this point you are just dipping your toe in the water. By getting in touch you are simply saying "This sounds interesting, I'd like to know more". Popping your info into our contact page will allow us to give you a call and start to paint a picture of what it is really like to work and live in remote communities. We try to provide a genuine, comprehensive overview, without avoiding the challenging aspects.

After the call you might be immediately sold on the idea and want to go onto the next step straight away, or you might like some time to think things over before continuing, or you might decide that it's not the best fit for you.

2. Upload Documents

Once you decide to jump in, we'll need a bit of information to get your profile up and running. You'll be asked to upload your resume, which needs to include your qualifications, work history, and at least two referees. You also have the option to upload a cover letter, an example of a unit of work you have developed, a profile photo, and any written references you might have. Although these are optional, they will likely help you stand out against other applicants, so we recommend uploading them.

You'll also have to provide details of any teacher registration you hold and any Working with Children Checks. Each state and territory have their own teacher registration, and most require a state-based Working with Children Check.

3. Interview

Once all your information is in and your documents are uploaded as required, we'll set up a time for an interview. This may be able to be done in person, but more likely will occur over vidoe call or a phone call.

We'll have a few formal questions to ask during the interview, but we're also keen to learn about your particular passions and interests, both related to work and lifestyle. Are you a desert person, or prefer the ocean? Do you like bigger schools or smaller settings? How do you feel about travelling on small planes...? Is there a particular region you are especially interested in?

The interview should take about 45 minutes and we'll finish with a good idea of your professional strengths, and your particular interests. This will allow us to put a profile together for you and start identifying schools that will be a good fit.

If you are interested in the type of questions that will be asked, you can take a look at an example interview rubric below.

4. Contact Schools

Now you play the waiting game.
In the meantime, we'll be busy playing matchmaker to find the very best school and position for you. While this may take some time, we'll keep you updated with how things are progressing.
You will eventually receive an email with the names and contact details for the schools whom your profile has been passed on to.

5. Selection Process

From this point, the school-based selection process kicks in and Outback Teacher Recruitment takes a step back. While the schools will have all the information that we passed on, it is likely they will conduct their own interviews and referee checks also.

You may decide that none of the schools are the right fit for you, or you may be unsuccessful in the merit selection process; in which case we can revise your options and try to find a more suitable school.

If you are successful and take up an offer, great! The next you hear from us will be a couple of months into the job when we touch base to see how things are travelling and to request feedback to help improve our services in the future.
